Studio Ghibli's epic ecological fable is re-told for the stage
With the co-operation of Studio Ghibli, Whole Hog Theatre presents the world’s first theatrical staging of Hayao Miyazaki’s renowned animated film.
Young warrior Ashitaka is a marked man. Cursed by a demon god whilst defending his village, he must leave his home forever to seek a cure.
In the forbidding forests to the west, he is forced to reconcile the warring human forces and the animal deities of times past. In the midst of this bitter and bloody conflict, he meets the wolf god Moro and her human child San: Princess Mononoke.
Using giant puppets made from recycled materials, visceral, physical storytelling and original live music, Studio Ghibli’s epic ecological fable is re-told for the stage.
Due to unprecedented demand, New Diorama are pleased to announce that Whole Hog Theatre will be bringing Princess Mononoke back to NDT for a full 2 week run, from Tue 18 to Sat 29 June 2013.
Performances are Tue - Sat @ 19:30, with matinees on Sat @ 15:30.
Whole Hog Theatre is a young theatre company based in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire who specialise in adaptation. Frustrated by the proliferation of 'safe' theatre, and the lack of opportunity for young artists to gain the professional experience in theatre necessary to enter the industry, we decided to go the whole hog and address these issues head on - hence our name.
Our company ethos is to strive for the highest possible standards in everything we do.
