Ugly Sisters

Friday 19 and Saturday 20 July, 7:30pm

"I'm here with you too Germaine - lying awake at night and wondering where that last century went."

On the day The Female Eunuch is issued in America, a transgender woman in flapping draperies rushes up to Germaine Greer and says: thank you - thank you so much for all you’ve done for us girls.

Ugly Sisters is an operatic, heretic, parasitic and hallucinatory retelling of this very moment, of sisterhood, of all feminist history.

Ugly Sisters is the latest offering from multi-award winning company piss / CARNATION, following their critically acclaimed debut at Soho Theatre 52 Monologues for Young Transsexuals (**** The Guardian, ***** To Do List - 'genuinely groundbreaking’).

The Mosinee Project

Tuesday 23 & Wednesday 24 July, 7:30pm

Mosinee, Wisconsin, 1950. An idyllic Midwestern town wakes up to find themselves in a nightmare.

Armed Communist forces have taken over; imprisoning townspeople, cutting off communication, marching through the streets with nobody to oppose them. Prices are changed, barbed wire fences erected, and the Mayor is held at gunpoint.

Or so it appears. This is just how it begins.

Plunging into the dawn of the Cold War and back again, The Mosinee Project follows the true story of a fake invasion. A fevered, darkly funny retelling, interrogating why we fear, control and tell tales about the future.

DRUM

Friday 26 & Saturday 27 July, 7:30pm

“A civilization flourishes when men plant trees under which they themselves never sit. What you need to understand is, Ghana is home.”

As the afternoon sun hits London’s BBC Broadcasting House, photographer James Barnor encounters broadcaster Mike Eghan for the first time. Thrown together far from home, two rising Ghanaian creatives navigate their perception of identity, success, assimilation and home.

Inspired by real events, this joyful and poignant play fuses storytelling, music and dance; capturing a unique snapshot of the swinging sixties.

DRUM premiered with a critically acclaimed sold-out run at Omnibus Theatre in 2022.

James Rowland Dies at the End of the Show

What would you do with an hour? What if it was your last hour ever?

For James the answer is easy: he wants to tell you a story. A story full of laughter and music and joy. A story about living

Helios

Thursday 11 July, 9pm

A lad lives halfway up a historic hill. A teenager is on a road trip to the city in a stolen car. A boy is driving a chariot, pulling the sun across the sky.

A story about the son of the god of the sun, Helios transplants the Ancient Greek tale into a modern-day myth wound round the winding roads of rural England - and into the everyday living of a towering city.

It’s a story about life, the invisible monuments we build to it, and the little things that leave big marks.

From ‘Masters of Storytelling’ (Fourthwall) Wright&Grainger, Helios is the award-winning follow up to the internationally-acclaimed Orpheus, Eurydice, and The Gods The Gods The Gods. Join them in a little room with a tape player - and a delicate tale to tell.

Jobsworth

Monday 15 - Wednesday 17 July, 7:30pm

Bea's secretly working three full-time jobs. All at the same time.

And she's still financially f*cked.

Between looking after luxury flats and dogsitting the world's ugliest pooch, she's neck-deep in employers and it's only a matter of time until someone finds out she's breaking all her contracts.

Armed with nothing but her smarmiest boss' dirty secret, can Bea get herself out of the red and into the black (and into the fit intern's bed)? Or will the plates she's been spinning come crashing down around her and her dysfunctional family?

A riotous comedy about snakes and surviving capitalism.

Lynn Faces

Sunday 28 July, 3pm & 7:30pm

Nearing 40, painfully shy, and emerging from a toxic break-up, Leah forms a punk band inspired by Lynn from Alan Partridge.

As she takes to the stage with no musical ability, will this gig push Leah further over the edge, or help her regain her confidence and find the hope she needs to move on?

A funny, farcical and poignant new play, exploring the impact of abusive behaviour, the power of friendship and how silliness can be healing.

Lynn Faces is a new play by multi award-winning writer Laura Horton, following her Fringe First-winning show, Breathless.
