Taking over the streets of East London, RIFT Theatre Company presented a sold-out fortnight of plays celebrating Shakespeare’s historic connections to Shoreditch.
RIFT took performances to the alley ways, parks and homes of Shoreditch to present Shakespeare-inspired theatre written by brilliant playwrights and produced by some of the Uk's best theatre companies. Receiving fantastic reviews and attracting audiences of over a hundred every evening, the unique festival was a roaring success.
Audiences were guided along two paths around Shoreditch making their way to pop up shows, stumbling across blood stained walls in a pie and mash shop, an argument in a hair salon, and a rap battle in a park to name but a few of the brilliant performances. The whole NDT team went along and loved every morsel of Shakespearean Shoreditch drama!
The plays were:
Three Loose Teeth by Thomas McMullan
Disnatured by Sabrina Mahfouz
The Best Pies in London by Abi Zakarian
Community Payback by Ali Muriel
The Isle is Full of Noises by James Soldan and Katie Lambert
A Pit of Clay by Brad Birch
We Two Alone by Rebecca Lenkiewicz
Heir to the Throne by Tobias Wright
Bobby D by Sebastian Baczkiewicz
The Strumpet's Plague by Nick Coupe
Playwright in residence (in a shed!), Annie Jenkins also wrote 1000 plays during the festival, see how she got on here.
