The Place We Made

29 & 30 May, 7pm

Twelve teenagers have had enough.

School is unfair, adults don’t understand them, and the world is a hostile place.

So they decide to make their own world. Deep in the wilderness of the Scottish Highlands, they find each other — escaping their realities in search of a new way of being.

Days turn into months and the abandoned house becomes a home. They try again and again to work out how to live with each other, and without any adults. But tensions rise, and it gets harder to trust one another as the realities of life off-grid bite. How long will their secret last? And will they make it through together?

Devised by the members of Camden Youth Theatre in collaboration with CYT Director Omar Bynon, The Place We Made explores the utopias we imagine for ourselves in all their wildness, freedom, and complexity.

Camden Youth Theatre is a completely free to attend youth theatre for young people who live or go to school in Camden. CYT introduces young people aged 13-19 to the skills they need to make their own inventive new theatre. Groups work with top professional theatre makers to create new shows and perform at two of London's best studio theatres: here at New Diorama Theatre and down the road at Camden People's Theatre. CYT have also performed at Battersea Arts Centre's Homegrown Festival, Youth Theatre Arts Scotland's Chrysalis Festival, and Old Diorama Arts Centre's Regents Roots Festival. Camden Youth Theatre is run by New Diorama Theatre and Camden People's Theatre, under the leadership of CYT Director Omar Bynon.
