Play Without A Title

The Oxford School of Drama, 12-15 July 2023

About

Started by Federico Garcia Lorca
Finished by Marcelo Dos Santos
Directed by Mark Maughan
Presented by The Oxford School of Drama

Play Without a Title is Lorca’s final, experimental but unfinished play. He was working on it up to the day of his assassination in 1936. Writing at a defining moment within the shadow of the Spanish Civil War he is actively questioning the role of theatre in a time of upheaval.

This “finished” play includes a new translation of Lorca’s first act with an enthralling present-day response.  What does it mean to be making theatre in the UK today? What stories should we be telling on our stages now and who is allowed to tell them?

In turn funny and poignant, Play Without a Title seeks to unpack some of the contemporary debates during our own current crises.
