About
Join PROJEKT EUROPA for an evening of form-bending, bold and migrant works-in-progress!
FIRST DRAFTS is an experiment in collective curating - the second of a series of three evenings that will be collectively curated by PROJEKT EUROPA’s Artistic Advisory Board. Each evening will include 6-8 pieces from different artists or collectives and will be framed by a quote, offering a thematic lens for artists to respond to.
The quote for January 23rd is ‘The very act of trying to look ahead to discern possibilities and offer warnings is in itself an act of hope’ - by Octavia Butler: where afrofuturism is sometimes defined as ‘imagining possible futures through a black cultural lens’, we are wondering - can you imagine possible futures through a migrant lens?
The participating artists are: Alisha Rahim & Alysha Nelson (Malaysia), Anita Brokmeier & Devaki Rajendran (Germany/Poland & India), Francesca Matthys (South Africa), Linn Johansson (Sweden), Max Percy (Hong Kong) and Sol Santana (Brazil/Switzerland).
The evening will be concluded with a Q&A with the artists and members of the PROJEKT EUROPA Artistic Advisory Board, reflecting on the work itself, the process of curating, and on the reality of being a migrant theatre maker right now.
FIRST DRAFTS is a unique snapshot of the extraordinary creativity and diversity of migrant performance in the UK - don’t miss your chance to be part of this vital conversation!

About the Company
PROJEKT EUROPA is a migrant-led theatre company and artist collective creating multilingual work at the intersection of performance, co-creation and participation. Grounded in the belief that anyone can be an artist, we’re committed to combating the systemic disadvantage and marginalisation of refugees, asylum seekers and first-generation migrants in the UK by providing equitable access to creative opportunities and celebrating the multitude of international perspectives which exist within our borders.
Our diverse programme focuses on the development and production of migrant-led performance work as well as delivering opportunities for career advancement, creative development and industry visibility for migrant theatre makers.
From participatory programmes offering free workshops to refugees, to commissions for migrant artists to co-create work within local communities, we strive to create a nation-wide offer that contributes to dismantling intersectional systemic barriers and biases, exploring creative, meaningful and sustainable ways of collaborating transnationally.
