Makers on Making: Workshops

Makers on Making: Workshops

Calling all form benders, genre mashers, anti-disciplinarians, and process heads: this one's for you.

Like you, we're obsessed with thinking about the way things are made.

So this season, we've gathered the UK's most exciting established and up-and-coming theatre companies to lift the lid on their approaches to devising.

In an industry that so often treats makers as too risky or unwieldy to resource, we're creating a workshop series that puts collaborative process at its centre, making visible the many possible tools and approaches, while also diving headfirst into the unknown.

For artists, the more you run your own rooms, the harder it becomes to find chances to peek into other people's processes. We want to give you the space to expand your horizons and be a novice again, all while championing companies at the forefront of a bold new wave of theatre making.

So far this season, we've welcomed YESYESNONODirty HareEnsemble Not Found, ThisEgg, piss/CARNATION, BULLYACHE, and RashDash to the building to show us how it's done.

Sign up to our Artist Newsletter to be the first to hear about future workshop opportunities and artist events.

Workhops are free to attend and take place at New Diorama Theatre, Theatre Deli, and partner venues.

Projected Texts with SUBJECT OBJECT

Tuesday 19th May, 10:30am-2pm

Location: New Diorama Theatre

By name and by nature, SUBJECT OBJECT lead a workshop that moves from process into praxis.

We’ll spend the first half of our time together talking about how SUBJECT OBJECT begin to think about making work, focussing on the processes behind work.txt, Instructions, and a new adaptation of Frankenstein.

In the second half, we’ll turn to the use of projected text as a tool for meaning-making and a way of building layers of understanding in performance. We’ll talk theory and examples before getting our hands dirty, translating thematic ideas into stage images using projected text.

Spaces are free but limited — booking is first come, first served.
